Welcome to Slow Hand Farm - August 2008
July and August are busy months on the farm, and I’ve been feeling the season ramp up as well. I finally got the bulk of the winter seedings finished in the garden, experimenting with one of Johnny’s six row seeders, which seems to do a good job with small seeded crops if you have a very fine seed bed. Not very practical for very small seedings but nice at a small production scale.
I also tried out a Tamarack Hoe for prepping seed beds. The roller in front does a great job of breaking up clods and smoothing out the soil. I’m not sure if these are still available but if you know a source I’d love to hear about it. The handle on the one I have needs a little work, and again, it’s more appropriate for a large garden or small farm. I’m trying both of those tools thanks to Abby and Zoë Bradbury who were nice enough to lend them to me when I visited their farm last month.
As always, take a look around the site. Let me know what you think and wish me luck.
Thanks for stopping by,
